Sabina Spiga is senior researcher at CNR-IMM–Unit of Agrate Brianza since 2004. She received the Degree in Physics from the Università di Bologna in 1995 and the PhD in Material Science in 2002 from Università di Milano.
S. Spiga is currently in charge of development of materials and emerging technologies for advanced electronic devices, with logic, non-volatile memory and memristor functionalities. Her main research achievements are related to the study of high-dielectric constant materials as gate dielectric non-volatile memory and high-density capacinatve value MIM capacitors, as well as resistive switching effects in transition metal oxides and nanostructures for RRAM, and recently to memristive device towards neuromorphic computing. In the last 8 years she participated to several international conferencse presneting the results of her research activity, incuding 13 invited talks.
Her research activity has been/is carried out in the framework of European (FP5-NEON, FP6-ET4US, FP6-REALISE, FP6-EMMA,), industrial (STMicroelectronics/Micron) and Italian (MIUR-FIRB - RBIPO6YSJJ) R&D projects.
She is currently the CNR Principal Investigator of the EU-Horizon2020-ICT project NeuRAM3 - “NEUral computing aRchitectures in Advanced Monolithic 3D-VLSI nano-technologies”, and she is involved and key person for CNR in the EU project RAMP, focusing on the development of memristive devices for synaptic emulation.
Since 2014 S. Spiga is member of the Management Committee for Italy of the COST Action ICT 1401 MemoCiS -“ Memristors-Devices, Models, Circuits, Systems and Applications”.
In the framework of a research industrial collaboration she is charge of the development of MIM high-density capacitors, incorporating high-dielectric constact materials, for power management and analog application.
In the past, she has coordinated the Italian project-funded by Fondazione Cariplo- (2010-2013) MORE - “Advanced metal-oxide heterostructures for nanoscale ReRAM”, and she has been the CNR Principal Investigator of the EU-FP7-IP GOSSAMER- Gigascale Oriented Solid State flAsh Memory for EuRope (2008-2011), and of the international projects CNR-IMEC on advanced gate stacks development for III-V semiconductors (2007-2010).
S. Spiga is co-author of more than 100 publications on peer reviewed journals and proceedings (ISI h-index=22). She co-organized the EMRS-2012-Symposium on "Novel Functional Materials and Nanostructures for innovative non-volatile memory devices” and in 2013/2014 she participated to the IEDM Memory Technology subcommittee. in 2016 she was program Chair of CIMTEC2016- Symposium K: “Non-volatile Memory Devices: materials, emerging concepts and applications”, June 5-9, 2016 (Perugia, Italy).
S. Spiga is regularly tutoring master and PhD students, and supervising post-docs. S. Spiga presented various invited seminars at Universities and Schools, and in 2010 she was invited lecturer at the Fudan University (Shanghai, China, May-June 2010).
